Lumbar Spine Workshops 2023 / 2024

Lumbar Rehab 1, 2, 3 (Adaptation) & NEW - Complex Presentations and Rehab Challenges

Lumbar Rehab 1

This clnically relevant full day face to face workshop is focused on the lumbar spine.

The workshop goal is to increase the rehab professionals understanding of the variation in back injury presentations and how this should influence their exercise selection & rehabilitation approach.

The day includes conversation on the anatomy, physiology and mechanical changes found with back injuries that are commonly seen in rehabilitation.

The biomechanical implications of spine physiology is also presented - including the structural stresses of loading, shear, stability, and impact. The goal is to enable the clinician to develop safe and effective programs for clients with back injuries for a broad range of structural problems.

Conditions covered include lumbar discal injuries, spinal stenosis, facet strains,  spondylolisthesis, nerve compression and SIJ dysfunction.

Some practical elements are included - but this course provides the specific knowledge foundation ahead of the more practical based Lumbar Rehab 2.

Dates will be available soon.

Lumbar Rehab 2

This workshop builds on the knowledge gained in Lumbar Rehab 1, progressing to the practical application of spinal clinical assessment techniques for mobility, range of motion, motor control, strength and exercise selection.

The goal is to help you to confidently formulate the safe & ideal starting point for any back rehabilitation program, one that will be tolerable and beneficial for the persons recovery.

The workshop then continues through the a range of exercise progressions suitable for back pain rehabilitation, including timelines expected for recovery and dosage considerations.

Varied "schools of thought" are integrated in the days workshop content with a broad, eclectic and open minded approach. It includes rehab approaches gleaned from my own educational experiences and research from key back pain & rehab researchers and thought leaders from around the world.

My goal is to provide you with a broad, well informed tool kit that will build on your current clinical approach to spinal pain rehab.

Communication, Conversations & Collaboration

Without truly connecting to the people you are working with - every body misses out.

Communciation, Conversations & Collaborations - What Matters Most

Have you ever felt like there has been a disconnect between what you said and what was heard, despite how clear you thought you may have been?

We are working in a world of health - care & recovery, have spent years learning about the body, physiology, exercise, etc., how to ask questions to asessss, analyse, reason and provide solutions to health problems - and yet how much time did we actually spend on "engaging communication" beyond being empathetic?

Not enough. And Yet - this is so important in our role.

Taking a moment to ensure you are truly engaging with your clients and connecting to their "what matters most" is the key to their positive health outcomes - and an enjoyable career for you as a health professional.

This course builds on the work of Owen and Sue Curtis and the tools they have developed through their extensive professional careers in the fields of Exercise Physiology and Psychology. This workshop will also aim to build your own awareness of your "self" as a therapist and as a person.
